Football and Fashion make a Touch Down

Football and fashion are not two things you normally hear mentioned in the same sentence. But, this year, to celebrate Super bowl XLVIII, Bloomingdalesrecruited the Football-Fashion dream team. A unique partnership with the NFL and CFDA has resulted in the creation of 48 haute couture football helmets. Some of the designers working in this partnership are Betsey Johnson, Dannijo and Rachel Zoe. You will not be seeing these helmets out in the field, but they are on display at Bloomingdales in New York. The helmets will be auctioned off and all proceeds will go towards the NFL foundation.

Remembering Oscar De La Renta

Oscar De La Renta had a very successful career in fashion winning many awards and dressing some of the finest women. He has dressed many first ladies, walkers of the red carpet and a number of brides.

The designer said that he was inspired by women. “The qualities that I admire most in women are confidence and kindness,” he said. His designs certainly reflected these values and made women feel confident and luxurious.

“Walk like you have three men walking behind you,” he said. De La Renta was a believer in the power of confidence. “I have always felt my role as a designer is to do the very best I can for a woman to make her look her best,” he said, “Fashion is only fashion once a woman puts it on."

Oscar De La Renta passed of cancer this October at age 82.

“You have to appreciate every single day that you’re alive. Life is a little bit like a garden – you have to find time to plant the seeds for beautiful flowers to grow,” Oscar De La Renta.

Fringe is the New Trend

Since the 20s fringe has had a fashion facelift. This year’s fashion week was covered in fringe. Project Runway winner, Sean Kelly was right on trend with his winning collection.

The bright orange stand out was not far from his previous winning design, a blue ombre fringe ball gown with a low scoop back. Heidi Klum wore this fun and fresh gown on the red carpet. Sean Kelly was talked about for his fringe around the globe.

Limited Time Collection, Alexander Wang at H&M

Fashion designer Alexander Wang has an exclusive collection on sale at H&M. This partnership is the first designer collaboration done with H&M. The retail store hopes to have an annual designer collaboration making top name designers available to the general public.
Alexander Wang is a New York based designer who has rethought the way we think about urban dress. His collection at H&M brings active-wear to the club and functionally to everyday dress. In his H&M collection there are clothing and accessories available for both men and women.

Accessories in Your Veins

Graduate student Naomi Kizhner has created a series of accessories that connect to human veins. The accessory collection is the product of Kizhner’s senior thesis titled “Energy Addicts.”

The accessories are the suggested solution to solve a future of depleting resources where we must find alternative ways to harvest power. “The suggested solution to the dilemma is based on the idea of biological wealth, harvesting energy directly from the body. Using invasive gold & biopolymer devices that must be embedded into the surface of the skin, simple movements performed by the subconscious are fully utilized,” Kizhner said. Is this the way of the future?

Met Gala

Hi everyone! Yesterday was cinco de Mayo and the 2014 Met Gala red carpet event! I thought I would share my favorite looks with you. Here they are; I hope you enjoy them about as much as I did.

Suki Waterhouse in Burberry

I am a softie when it comes to fairytale dresses and this gown by burberry is just the right amount of whimsy combined with the perfect amount of sophistication. (Can I have one Burberry?)

Kate Mara in (my favorite designer) Valentino

Kate Mara strut the red carpet in a couture gown by Valentino; the detail is impeccable.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta

SJP is one of my idols and fashion muses. The gown she wore on May 5th was bold and glamorous. SJP never enters a room without making a statement. #lovethisgirl

Shailene Woodley in Rodarte gown

Shailene Woodley looked beautiful in her nature inspired Rodarte gown. The dress made her look effortless.

Emma Stone in Thakoon

Emma Stone has been dominating the fashion scene lately and her bold choice of ensemble at the Met Gala continued the pattern. Stone was youthful, vibrant and effortlessly sexy; she is a natural beauty.

Pretty in Pastel

Happy Friday everyone! So I have come up with a little obsession: pastel highlights. I love my blonde hair, but for spring I am thinking of adding a pop of color. I love how these pastel colors are bold but in a subtle way. The colors are whimsicle and flirty (a little like me, wink wink ). I will most likely try out the look first with some hair chalk. (hair chalking DIY) Hair chalking gives you a pop of color to your hair without the commitment. I am so excited! Here are some of my inspirations:

Also, is anyone else loving Kesha's rainbow hair? I think it suits her well; she looks amazing!

Come back to see me pretty in pastel! And tell me what you think about pastel hair colors by tweeting me @KellyLstyle and using #prettyinpastel. I can't wait to hear what you think!

P.S. Like me on Facebook, and follow me on Instagram and Twitter!

Pretty Little Inspiration

Pretty Little Liars is one of the most stylish shows on television. Becoming a die-hard fan I began to search fashion blogs specific to the show, information about the woman behind the clothes and where I can get some of these great looks!

Personally my favorite Pretty Little Liar is Hanna Marin, played by the beautiful Ashley Benson. Hanna’s style is the perfect mix of girly and edgy. From head to toe, Hanna is always put together even when dealing with heartbreak, stress and of course A.

Dresses and blazers fill Hanna’s closet. She wears bold colors and a mix of patterns. Here are some of her looks I love and want!

Hanna’s long bob (lob) is shabby chic and I cannot wait to get one myself! I love the rough wavy texture of her hair, and the short style is perfect for spring.

Hannah’s makeup is also always done to perfection: bold eyelashes, a colored lip, rosy cheeks, and a daytime smoky eye.

The magic behind all of the fashion in PLL is none other than costume designer, Mandi Line. Now you can even buy her new line of PLL inspired clothing at Aeropostal. Mandi is super cool and passionate about her work. She has a style similar to Aria but can channel the style of any of the liars. Watch this great interview! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD4klbWlY-U

Happy Thursday!
